Are Smart Electric Cars The Way Forward

The smart car still demanding our attention in terms of design and innovation. Despite being small Smart Cars are still a leading city car contender.

The Innovative Smart cars compact and distinguished appearance is still turning heads and triggering smiles amongst most drivers. you can even see its influence on other car manufacturers with the introduction of Toyotas IQ and the Fiat 500. Other manufacturers may be jumping on the toy car wagon but they are soon again going to be left behind. Smart are set to turn a head or two and reignite the stir that they created when they first appeared on our roads back in 1998, by introducing a new generation of the quirky roadster- soon to be available in electric! Introduced as the Smart Electric Drive.

Smarts value from the very start has been to get the best out of motoring while making minimal impact on the environment. (And of course, having fun while doing it.) It is no doubt then that the Smart journey has ended up down this road!

Smarts brand mission from the beginning has been to get the best out of motoring while making minimal impact on the environment. (And of course, having fun while doing it.) It was only a matter of time until their dream became a reality.

The improvements come from what the car is lacking rather than what the improved design has gained, the new electric drive will be missing CO2 emissions, engine noise, and engine oil, like other Smarts there is also no need for road tax.
The Electric Drive has really stepped up a gear by creating a saving of up to 80% in fuel costs over the already highly economical smart fortwo.

So Smart have kept to there word by minimizing impact on the environment, how do they achieve on the cars fun aspect? Well with fun, health and safety (unfortunately) has to be addressed, with a full complement of Mercedes-Benz safety we can rest assure that any fun will be safe! The smart Electric is as quick as tame lightening, achieving 0-30 in an impressive 5.8 seconds however the motor is limited to a top speed of 62 mph at least health and safety will be happy, so I suspect no outside lane driving. Its appearance how ever is standard Smart- charming, amusing, and entertaining. It drives stably but has also been described as exhilarating!

100 Smart electric drives have been trialed since 2007 and if all goes well you can look to buy from 2012.
