Since 2005, Lexus has been selling a hybrid crossover SUV by the name Lexus RX Hybrid. Being a highly classic vehicle, this car has a Lexus RX body design and a powertrain. The new Lexus Hybrid Drive includes V6 gasoline engine. This new model was launched by Lexus in the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2008. Lexus scheduled RX 450h to start selling in 2009 as 2010 model in Europe, Asia (which also includes Japan), North America and other markets.
The new Lexus RX450h is fully loaded and offers many safety features. It is offering Safety Connect. This feature is a complete peace of mind. It automatically sends a request for help in the situation of severe rear-end collision, or when the airbags of the vehicle are launched, in the case of crash. It works even at the time when you are not in the position of making a help call. Safety Connect also includes Stolen Vehicle Location service, which helps the police to locate when a vehicle is stolen.
Enhanced roadside assistance is a brilliant feature of Safety Connect. It is operated by an Emergency Assistance Button (SOS). You can get help if you have a flat tyre by simply pressing this button. When you purchase the new vehicle, you get one year subscription with Safety Connect.
The RX 450h also includes Direct Tire Pressure Monitor System. It continuously monitors the air pressure of all tires, including the spare wheel, and when it senses a low air pressure in a tire, it alerts with an indicator light. Theft Deterrent system is also one of the many magnificent safety features of the RX 450h. This system immobilizes the engine with the help of a rolling code and keeps the engine immobilized, unless the system detects the proper Smart Access key.
Another important feature of this car is the Active Front Headrests for the driver and front passenger. It uses the force of the body against the seatback, settle the headrest upward and forward at once to support the head, in case of low speed rear end collision. Whiplash can be avoided greatly through this feature.
The car has a very amazing break system as it is four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist. Once the driver steps on the brake pedal in the situation of emergency, the system provides supplemental braking power. Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) modulates the amount of brake fluid pressure, distributed to the front and rear brakes to gain even greater control.
Another amazing feature is the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), which has a sensitive network of sensors that monitor everything from speed, to steering, to braking. This system can sense a loss of anticipation, and corrects it immediately before it occurs. On the occurrence of loss of traction, VDIM integrates steering, braking, Traction Control (TRAC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to help the driver in maintaining the vehicle stable.
The Lexus RX 450h consists of a welded steel uni-body frame, strong box-section, side-impact door beams and impact-dissipating front and rear crumple zones. The RX 450h safety features include the Pre-Collision System. There is a front mounted millimetre-wave radar sensor, which constantly monitors the distance and closing speed of a vehicle on the front. This system instantly retracts the front seatbelts and prepares the Brake Assist for increased braking pressure, when the driver steps on the brake pedals in the situation of unavoidable frontal collision.
A dual stage for the driver and the front passenger, front and rear roll sensing side curtain airbags, outboard rear seat mounted airbags and knee air bags for the driver and passenger.
